Prognosis of some diseases according to Ayurveda
(Article published in National Medical Journal- 1969)

1. The patient who is dehydrated, if he is unconscious and if his tongue is
protruding will die soon.

2. The patient who is in a comatose condition with his body cold and his face
looks oily(unctous) will die soon.

3. The patient of piles who has developed oedema in the extremeties
abdomen, scortum and rectum, or with heart diseases and vomiting will
not live long.

4. The patient of diarrhoea, if his motions are very loose and of different
colours, will not live long.

5. The patient of urinary calculus, if he develops oedema of the scrotum,
with pain and retention of urine,will definitely die.

6. The diabetic patient who develops extreme polydypsia, with burning
sensation all over the body and septic lesions such as boils-carbuncle-is
destined to die soon.

7. The patient of ascitis who is constipated, has retention of urine and
developed dyspnoea due to general anasarca and general weakness
will die soon.

8. The patient of anaemia with general anasarca turned to jaundice will
die soon.

9. If a male patient of anaemia develops edema from foot upwards to
head with accompanying complications such as coma, vomiting, dyspnoea,
tympanitis, diarrhoea, he will surely die soon.

In the case of female patient, if the oedema develops from head
downwards, with other symptoms as above, she will have the same fate.

10. The patient of anaemia whose body is strong but extremeties are weak
and viceversa, will also die.

11. As a general rule,in most of the diseases, if all the saptha dhatus in the
body and the dehagnis are weak, such cases should be avoided by the
physician, knowing that they end in death.

12. In Vata rogas,epilepsy, leprosy, Raktapitta, ascitis Rajayakshma,Gulma
and in syphilis, if the body has become weak, the physician should avoid
treating them, knowing that they are incurable.
