Thumbi plant is a common herb known to man in this country.Its efficacy is realised in emergencies.It grows to a height of about one or two feet long with knots on its stems and long leaves , quarter of an inch in breadth and more than 2 inches in length.Cluster of flowers like ear rings are found , up and down,the stalks of leaves, pearl white in colour with single petals.VALUE OF THE HERB :

PROCESS :

Immediately after snake bite,about 3/4 to one ounce of the juice ,should be given orally to the patient.After two or three motions,phlegm and food remnents in the stomach will come out as vomitings.You will find heat gradually coming into the body.For nearly 20 hours from the hour of bite, the patient should be kept awake.GFor two days, the patient should be given boiled ರೈಸ್ and greengram only prepared in a new mud pot.Salt chillies and tamarind can be taken on 3rd day.
In case if the patient falls swoon on the floor with foam coming out of mouth after the snake bite,put a few drops of the juice of the leaves into his nostrils.You will find the patient restoring to senses within a short time.Then give 1 ounce of the juice internally crush a few leaves and place it on the spot where the snake bit and have it well bandaged.
2.Similarly in the case of scorpion srings and other insect bites,if the juice mixed with a few drops of honey is given inside and leaves rubbed it over the spot,will bring forth cure.
3.For all skin diseases like erruptions,bubbles,dry soriasis,itches,irritant skin,if juice of the leaves is rubbed over forth cure.
4.For jaundices,fainting,white spots,giddiness due to cold,running in the nose,phelgm:juice of the leaves, if dropped through the nose will bring forth cure.
5.If the leaves mixed with leaves of Dacmia Extensa (Uthamani plant) well ground and given with Cow's milk, morning and evening,the female patient who is suffering from irregular discharges,will feel much relieved (Tamarind and chillies to be avoided).

ಇದರ ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಸಾಮಾನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸಲ್ಪಡುತ್ತವೆ .ಇವುಗಲ್ಲನ್ನು ಅನೇಕಸಲ ರೀಚಕವಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ಅನೇಕಸಲ ವಾಂತಿ ಮಾಡಿಸಲಿಕ್ಕಾಗಿ ವಿಷಾಹಾರ ಸೇವಿಸಿದಾಗ ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುತ್ತಾರೆ.ಕಸವನ್ನು ಹೊರಗೆ ಹಾಕುತ್ತದೆ.ಸಾಮಾ ನ್ಯವಾಗಿ ದೇಹದ ತಾಪಮಾನವನ್ನು ಕಾಪಾಡುತ್ತದೆ .ದೃಷ್ಟಿಯನ್ನು ವೃದ್ಧಿಸುತ್ತದೆ. ಹೆಂಗಸರಿಗೆ ಆಗುವ ರಕ್ತ ಸ್ರಾವವನ್ನು ಕಡಿಮೆ ಮಾಡುತ್ತದೆ .

ಉಪಯೋಗಿಸುವ ವಿಧಾನ :
ಹಾವು ಕಚ್ಚಿದ ತಕ್ಷಣ ೩/೪ ರಿಂದ 1 OZ .ಇದರ ಎಲೆಗಳ ರಸವನ್ನು ಬಾಯಿ ಮೂಲಕ ಕೊಡಬೇಕು.ತಕ್ಷಣ ೨-೩ ಸಲ ಭೇದಿಯಾಗಿ ಮತ್ತು ವಾಂತಿಯಾಗಿ ಹೊಟ್ಟೆಯೊಳಗಿನ ವಿಷವನ್ನು ಹೊರ ಹಾಕುತ್ತದೆ . ಆಗ ನಿಧಾನವಾಗಿ ದೇಹದ ತಾಪಮಾನ ಮರಳಿ ಮಾಮೂಲು ಸ್ಥಿತಿಗೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ .
ಹಾವು ಕಚ್ಚಿದ ೩೦ ತಾಸುಗಳ ವರೆಗೆ ಹಾವು ಕಚ್ಚಿದವರು ಎಚ್ಚರದಿಂದ ಇರಬೇಕು .೨ ದಿವಸ ಹೆಸರು ಬೇಳೆ ಅಣ್ಣ ಮಣ್ಣಿನ ಮಡಿಕೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬೇಯಿಸಿದ್ದನ್ನು ಕೊಡಬೇಕು.ಉಪ್ಪು , ಮೆಣಸಿನಕಾಯಿ , ಹುಳಿ,ಮೆಣಸಿನಖಾರ, ಹುಳಿ ಇತಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ೩ನೆ ದಿನದಿಂದ ತೆಗೆದುಕೊಳ್ಳಬಹುದು .
೧.ಒಂದು ಪಕ್ಷ ರೋಗಿ ಎಚ್ಚರ ತಪ್ಪಿ (ಪ್ರಜ್ಞಾಶೂನ್ಯ ) ಬಿದ್ದರೆ , ಬಾಯಿಯಲ್ಲಿ ಬುರುಗು ಇತ್ಯಾದಿ ಬಂದರೆ ಕೆಲವು ಹನಿ ದ್ರೋಣ ಪುಷ್ಪಿ (ತುಂಬಿ) ಎಲೆಯ ರಸವನ್ನು ಮೂಗಿನ ಹೊಲ್ಲೆಯಲ್ಲಿ ಹಾಕಬೇಕು .ನಂತರ ಸ್ವಲ್ಪ ಸಮಯದಲ್ಲೇ ಪ್ರಜ್ಞೆ ಬರುತ್ತದೆ .ನಂತರ 1oz (ಒಂದು ಔನ್ಸೆ) ರಸವನ್ನು ಬಯೋ ಮೂಲಕ ಕೊಡಿರಿ .ಅದರ ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅರೆದು ಹಾವು ಕಚ್ಚಿದ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಚ್ಚಿರಿ (ಕಟ್ಟಿರಿ) .
೨.ಇದೆ ತರಹ ಚೇಳು ಕಚ್ಚಿದಾಗ ಅಥವಾ ಇನ್ನಾವುದೇ ಹುಳಗಳು ಕಚ್ಚಿದರೆ ಜೇನು ತುಪ್ಪದ ಜೊತೆ ಬಾಯಿ ಮೂಲಕ ಕೊಡಿರಿ ಮತ್ತು ಎಲೆಗಳನ್ನು ಅರೆದು ಕಚ್ಚಿದ ಜಾಗದಲ್ಲಿ ಹಚ್ಚಿರಿ.ಇದರಿಂದ ಕೂಡಲೇ ಗುಣ ಕಾಣಿಸುತ್ತದೆ .
೩.ಕಾಮಾಲೆ ರೋಗದಲ್ಲಿ (Jaundice) , ಎಚ್ಚರ ತಪ್ಪಿದಾಗ ಬಿಳಿ ಚಿಬ್ಬ್ಬಿನಲ್ಲಿ (White spots) , ತಲೆ ಸುತ್ತಿನಲ್ಲಿ ನೆಗಡಿಯಿಂದ ಮೂಗಿನಿಂದ ನೀರು ಇಳಿಯುತ್ತಿದರೆ , ತುಂಬಿ ರಸ (ಎಲೆಯಿಂದ) ಮೂಗಿಗೆ ಹಾಕಿದರೆ ಗುಣವಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.
೪. ತುಂಬಿ ಎಲೆ ಮತ್ತು ಉತ್ತರಾಣಿ ಎಲೆ (Dacmic extracts) ಎಲೆ ಸೇರಿಸಿ ಚೆನ್ನಾಗಿ ಅರೆದು . ಹಾಲಿನ (ಆಕಳ ಹಾಲಿನ) ಜೊತೆ ಬೆಳಗ್ಗೆ -ಸಾಯಂಕಾಲ ಹೆಣ್ಣು ಮಕ್ಕಳಿಗೆ ಮಾಸಿಕ ತೊಂದರೆ ಗಳಲ್ಲಿ (Irregulalr periods) ಹೆಚ್ಚು ರಕ್ತ ಸ್ರಾವವಗುತ್ತಿದರೆ ಇದರ ಸೇವನೆಯಿಂದ ತುಂಬಾ ಗುಣಕಾರಿಯಾಗುತ್ತದೆ.ಆದರೆ ಹುಳಿ , ಖಾರ ಇತ್ಯಾದಿಗಳನ್ನು ಬಿಡಬೇಕು
